SLS Masterclass witth Dean kaelin, David Archulta's Teacher!

Speech Level Singing Atlanta Presents: Masterclasses with David Archuleta's voice teacher Sat September 12th!

If you have ever wondered how David Archuleta sings his high notes so easily, you can come to a Masterclass on Saturday September 12 with his teacher Dean Kaelin! Dean is a member of the "IMT" team, a group of dedicated SLS professionals who travel the world every spring and fall to bring Speech Level Singing instruction and inspiration everywhere!

Dean trained David and many other stars using SLS, or Speech Level Singing technique, which he has been teaching for over 20 years.
Speech Level Singing (SLS) Technique is unlike any vocal technique in existence today. SLS technique enables singers to develop a healthy, strong voice with great high notes and no breaks or strain. Students learn to sing from the chest voice to higher notes by "mixing" into the upper register, rather than forcing the chest voice up, or disconnecting into a weak, breathy tone. The resulting voice will be smooth and balanced throughout the entire range, and the vocal range will increase dramatically. SLS technique allows the singer to negotiate the "bridges" of the voice easily and without muscular tension, which results in the ability to easily sing in any style with soul, emotion, and flexibility. Speech Level Singing technique produces voices that remain healthy throughout a lifetime of singing.

Rather than forcing you to sing in any particular vocal style, SLS allows you to sing freely and expressively in the style in which YOU like to sing! Thousands of professional Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Pop, Theatre, and Opera singers all rely on Speech Level Singing Technique to maintain their voices and their careers. Over 120 Grammy Winners are where they are today because of Speech Level Singing! Speech Level Singing is the ONLY technique endorsed by American Idol. When you want a great technique that will give you amazing high notes, strength, power, flexibility, and a HEALTHY VOCAL PRODUCTION, Speech Level Singing is the answer!

Broadway Dreams and SLS

Broadway Dreams Founder Endorses Tricia Grey, MMus and Speech Level Singing!

(published in the Fulton Times)

Youth today, led by the devices of advertisers, marketers and corporate giants, all crave the red carpet. They desire to live a life of the stars, and many, fueled by the unpredicted opportunities available to them via producers like Disney, Nickelodeon and shows like American Idol and America’s Got Talent, desire a professional career as a performer.

There are many pitfalls that a parent of a child who loves performing and dreams of becoming a star should be aware of. The first and perhaps most important is proper training. Just as a parent would never send their child to play contact sports without proper supporting gear, so too parents must be ever vigilant in providing their aspiring dancers, actors and singers the support of proper technique. Because young performer’s bodies are still developing, damage done to their “instruments” at this stage of the journey can have life long repercussions.

This is particularly true of the voice, says Tricia Grey MMus of Sing Like A Star! ™ Studios. “If your child’s goal is to become a vocal performer, then finding the right vocal technique, voice teacher and or vocal coach is absolutely imperative. They must begin to employ a technique that will give them freedom from strain, provide them with awesome high notes, endless power and the ability to sing in any style with ease and control. With this in mind Speech Level Singing (SLS) is the only method to consider. SLS is the preferred vocal training for hundreds of Grammy and Tony award winners, and countless movie and television personalities. So needless to say, it is the most sought after vocal technique in the world of music today. Producers know that a performer with SLS training will have the vocal dexterity, and more importantly the vocal stamina needed to sing with power, soul, and emotion in any setting!

Annette Tanner of The Broadway Dreams Foundation concurs. Featured on NBC, FOX, and UPN Television, the Broadway Dreams Foundation is the country’s premiere performing arts training program. With a faculty made up of today’s biggest Broadway stars, casting directors, choreographers and agents dedicated to giving back to the theatrical community, they provide invaluable training to anyone who aspires to a career in musical theater.

“Kids today most often mimic what they hear, belting out music with little or no awareness of how to properly support the sound” says Tanner. “We are constantly auditioning and I have to say that when we come across a singer that wows us, 90% of the time that talent is vocally trained. Without a doubt there are only one or two teachers in the Atlanta metro area able to produce such a stellar level of consistency when it comes to technique, poise, and overall professionalism. Tricia Grey of Sing Like a Star! ™ Studio is certainly one of them.

“Each year we hold a one day winter intensive called The Triple Threat Extreme. In this one day intensive, students spend time with our remarkable Broadway stars in three spotlight classes - acting, singing and dance. Each student receives one-on-one attention as they learn about auditioning, cold reading, vocal technique, presentation, dance calls, and dance technique. Students even rehearse authentic choreography taught by the performers, dance captains and choreographers who are presenting this material on Broadway. In anticipation of the Triple Threat Extreme participants returning to experience our all important summer program, we often recommend them to the Sing Like a Star! ™ Studio. Without fail they all return as standouts.”

How to Make it to American Idol

How do you Make It to “American Idol”?
Tricia Grey. MMus

The huge success of American Idol worldwide has done a great thing for young singers- it has given them hope. Hope that, no matter where you come from, if you have talent and drive, you just might get to stand in front of an audience of millions, as David Archuleta did, and do what you love to do most- SING!

What most people who audition for American Idol don’t realize, however, is that for the vast majority of singers, a great vocal technique will make the difference between being washed out in the first round, and having the stamina to make it to the end of the competition. It’s one thing to sound great in your bedroom, at a party, or in your high school musical, and another thing entirely to have the consistency required for a professional career as a singer.

If your goal is to be a professional singer in the Rock, Pop, R & B, or Musical Theatre professions, it is very difficult to find a voice teacher who will teach you to sing in those styles. There are a lot of teachers who have gone through a degree program, but unfortunately those programs are not designed to train teachers for anything much besides classical and choral singing.

Fortunately, a revolutionary vocal technique called Speech Level Singing has emerged from the always creatively fertile Los Angeles area. Originated by Seth Riggs, Speech Level Singing will give you great high notes (just listen to David Archuleta for an example of a Speech Level trained student!), and a balanced, healthy, yet powerful production that you can use in any vocal style while maintaining the health of your voice.

If YOU would like to be the next American Idol, you need to start training your voice correctly with a Speech Level Singing instructor. SLS is (rightfully) the ONLY vocal method officially endorsed by American Idol. This technique has resulted in 5 American Idol winners so far and over 130 Grammy Winners.

WHAT IS SLS? (SPEECH LEVEL SINGING)

What is Speech Level Singing (SLS)?

In the middle of his concert at the famous Forum in Los Angeles, superstar Stevie Wonder stopped the show to acknowledge, in front of thousands of fans, a man who has had much to do with the success and longevity of his vocal career. He wasn't referring to his manager or record producer. He was referring to Seth Riggs - his voice teacher.

Seth Riggs is considered by many to be the best and most successful voice teacher in the world. He is certainly the busiest. No other teacher, past or present, has ever matched his phenomenal track record. His students are a veritable "Who's Who" of singers, actors, dancers, and entertainers throughout the world.

Seth Riggs's vocal technique and the methods he uses to teach the technique were forged and tempered by the fierce demands placed on the world's top performers, who must often perform several shows a night - night after night! A great deal of money is always at stake, so his clients' voices must be able to function easily, without strain. It is no wonder that whenever singers come to Los Angeles from other parts of the world, producers, directors and fellow performers send them to see this master vocal technician.

American Idol Auditions

As a voice teacher, I always chuckle when I get a call the week before the American Idol auditions from a student who wants me to prepare them for the audition the next week. What many young singers fail to realize is that to reach the stamina and consistency level of most of the performers who make it to the final round takes many years of training and a very solid vocal technique.
A great vocal technique such as Speech Level Singing technique, taught at Sing Like a Star! studios, prepares a student to sing in any style with control, great high notes, power, and stamina. However, thought I am told I get amazing results very quickly, this is usually not something that will happen in a week! A good vocal technique is built into the vocal response of the singer, one neuromuscular response at a time. When a singer invests the time necessary to truly train the voice well, they can endure the rigors of many rounds of auditions required to even make in on the show, and they will have a solid technique to rely on during the grueling shooting schedule. If you want a voice that is "American Idol" material, you need to invest time, practice and devotion to training the instrument. Fortunately with Speech Level Singing technique, you will develop a voice tht will be competitive in any market, including the American Idol auditions!
